On 18 July 1974, the following poem, entitled “Kin” (“Hatred”), was published in Hürriyet, one of Turkey’s major nationwide newspapers.

KİN — Turkish (original)

Kahpe Yunan bu dünyada durdukça
Bu kin benden vallâhi de gidemez
Durup durup köpek gibi gördükçe
Bu kin benden vallâhi de gidemez
Bin Gâvur kellesi bir kin ödemez.

Öç almaktır yegâne tasam
Sıra gelse savaş meydanına uğrasam
Bir günde bin Gâvur kellesi doğrasam
Bu kin benden vallâhi de gidemez
Bin Gâvur kellesi bir kin ödemez.

Otuz bininin taşla ezsem başını
On bininin pensle söksem dişini
Yüz bininin çaya döksem leşini
Bu kin benden vallâhi de gidemez
Bin Gâvur kellesi bir kin ödemez.

Bütün dünya bilir Türk’ün farkını
Yunan’ın başına yıkan çarkını
Külhanlarda yaksam beş bin kırkını
Bu kin benden vallâhi de gidemez
Bin Gâvur kellesi bir kin ödemez.

Kırk binini süngü ile pullasam
Seksen binini cehenneme yollasam
Yüz binini ipe çekip sallasam
Bu kin benden vallâhi de gidemez
Bin Gâvur kellesi bir kin ödemez.

HATRED — English translation

As long as the treacherous Greek remains in this world,
By Allah, this hatred will never leave me.
Whenever I see him behaving like a dog,
By Allah, this hatred will never leave me.
A thousand infidel heads would not repay this hatred.

Revenge is my only concern.
If my turn came to enter the battlefield,
If in a single day I cut off a thousand infidel heads,
By Allah, this hatred will never leave me.
A thousand infidel heads would not repay this hatred.

If I crushed the heads of thirty thousand with stones,
If I pulled out the teeth of ten thousand with pliers,
If I threw the corpses of a hundred thousand into the river,
By Allah, this hatred will never leave me.
A thousand infidel heads would not repay this hatred.

The whole world knows what distinguishes the Turk,
The wheel he brings crashing down upon the Greek,
If I burned five thousand and forty of them in furnaces,
By Allah, this hatred will never leave me.
A thousand infidel heads would not repay this hatred.

If I pierced forty thousand with bayonets,
If I sent eighty thousand to hell,
If I hanged a hundred thousand from ropes,
By Allah, this hatred will never leave me.
A thousand infidel heads would not repay this hatred.
