Vasileia and Vavylas Βασίλεια και Βαβυλάς
Vasileia and Vavylas is a large predominantly Greek mixed in the occupied Keryneia District. Vavylas lies at a distance of 2 klm from Vasileia.
Geographical Location: It lies 18 km West of Keryneia, on the Northern foot of the Pentadaktylos mountain range.
Population: The population of these communities consisted in 1960 of 855 Greeks and 213 Turks.
Christian Places of Worship: Within these communities, are the churches of Agioi Konstantinos kai Eleni, Agios Georgios and the chapels of Panagia Achrantos, Agios Fotios, Agia Marina, Agia AIkaterini (Metochion Sina), Panagia Kriniotissa (ancient monument).
Schools: The 2 Greek Primary Schools had 183 students during the 1973-74 school year.
Effects of the 1974 Turkish Invasion: During the Turkish Invasion of 1974, the communities was taken over by the Turkish army and as a result the whole of their Greek population was ethnically cleansed. Since then, the Turkish occupation forces and the illegal occupation authority prevent their return.
