Rizokarpaso is a large predominantly Greek mixed in the occupied Karpasia region.
Geographical Location: It lies 67 km Northeast of Ammochostos.
Population: The population of this community consisted in 1960 of 3.151 Greeks and 2 Turks.
Christian Places of Worship: Within this community, are the churches of Agios Synesis, Agia Trias and the chapels of Profitis Avvakoum, Panagia Eleousa, Panagia Afentrika, Apostolos Andreas (Holy Monastery), Agios Georgios (ruins), Agios Georgios Mesovouni, Agia Marina, Agia Athanasia, Agia Athanasia (new), Panagia Afentrika Sykada, Panagia Dafnonta, Agios Filon, Agios Synesis, Agia Mavri, Agios Filon (new), Agios Fotios, Agia Foteini, Asomatoi, Agios Nakos.
Schools: The 2 Greek Primary Schools had 277 students during the 1973-74 school year.
Effects of the 1974 Turkish Invasion: During the Turkish Invasion of 1974, this community was taken over by the Turkish army and as a result the whole of its Greek population was ethnically cleansed. Since then, the Turkish occupation forces and the illegal occupation authority prevent their return.
