Morfou: Morfou is a town of the occupied part of the Nicosia District.
Location It lies 34 klm west of Lefkosia
Population: The population of this town consisted in 1960 of 6.480 Greeks, 123 Turks and 32 Maronites.
Christian Places of Worship: Within this town, are the churches of Agios Mamas, Agia Paraskevi, Agios Georgios and the chapel of Panagia Mnasi.
Schools: The 3 Greek Primary Schools had 797 students during the 1973-74 school year. Additionally, 3 Greek Secondary Schools also operated here.
Effects of the 1974 Turkish Invasion: During the Turkish Invasion of 1974, the town was taken over by the Turkish army and as a result the whole of its Greek population was ethnically cleansed. Since then, the Turkish occupation forces and the illegal occupation authority prevent their return.
