Lefka: Lefka is a large community of the occupied part of the Lefkosia District.

Location: It lies 48 klm west of Lefkosia and 16 klm southeast of Morfou, at a height of 140m.

Demographic Information: In 1946, 981 Greeks lived in Lefka, most of whom however were forced to leave the community during the liberation struggle of 1955-59. In 1963 there remained in Lefka only 36 Greeks compared to 3.585 Turkish Cypriots, 6 Maronites and 48 others. The remaining few Greek inhabitants of Lefka were forced to leave the community in 1964.

Population: The population of this community consisted in 1960 of 34 Greeks, 3.585 Turks and 6 Maronites. its Turkish population in 1973 was 4.544.

Christian Places of Worship: Within this community, is the church of Panagia Akentou.

Effects of the 1974 Turkish Invasion: During the Turkish Invasion of 1974, this community was taken over by the Turkish army and as a result the whole of its Greek population was ethnically cleansed. Since then, the Turkish occupation forces and the illegal occupation authority prevent their return.
