Karavostasi and Xeros Καραβοστάσι και Ξερός

Karavostasi and Xeros is a large predominantly Greek mixed in the occupied part of the Lefkosia District. Within the local administrative regions of Karavostasi lay the two small communities of Xeros (0,5 klm east) and Potamos tou Kampou (2 klm west).

Geographical Location: It lies 50 km West of Nicosia and 17 km Southwest of Morfou, in the geographical region of Morfou at an elevation of 5m.

Population: The population of these communities consisted in 1960 of 1.111 Greeks, 333 Turks and 14 Maronites. Their Greek population in 1973 was 305.

Christian Places of Worship: Within these communities, is the church of Agios Nikolaos (Xeros).

Schools: The 1 Greek Primary Schools had 100 students during the 1973-74 school year. Additionally, a Greek Secondary School also operated here.

Effects of the 1974 Turkish Invasion: During the Turkish Invasion of 1974, the communities was taken over by the Turkish army and as a result the whole of their Greek population was ethnically cleansed. Since then, the Turkish occupation forces and the illegal occupation authority prevent their return.
